Basalt House

A house between rock and water. I started with Midjourney renders, then used AI to build a Blender model, directing its development through sketches and prompts.

The starting point

Basalt House began as a set of images I created in Midjourney: heavy stone walls, warm timber, a monolith in the entrance hall, a bathroom built around rock, and rooms opening towards water. Together, they suggested a house imagined above Lake Tequesquitengo in Morelos, Mexico.

From images to rooms

I then asked AI to translate those renders into a Blender model. The images gave it a visual direction, but the plan and the connections between rooms still had to be worked out. I reviewed the developing model and gave the AI sketches and prompts to amend it.

An editable result

The result is an editable concept model with connected living spaces, two bedroom suites, courtyards and pools. The browser version lets you inspect that arrangement at eye level, alongside the original Midjourney images that started the project.

The sequence

Midjourney renders first. Modelling followed.

The model developed through repeated review and amendment. My sketches and written prompts helped turn the separate images into a house whose spaces connect.

01

Explore in Midjourney

I created the initial renders to explore the character of the house: basalt, timber, water, light and the relationship between the rooms and landscape.

Starting point · Midjourney images
02

Ask AI to model it

I used those renders as the basis for an AI-built Blender model. This first translation had to infer geometry and a layout from views that did not define a complete plan.

03

Sketch, prompt, review

I reviewed the result and gave the AI sketches and prompts to change it. Further rounds developed the room connections, courtyard proportions, private suites and relationship with the water.

04

Inspect the developed house

The approved model brings those changes together. Plans, model renders and a walk-through make it possible to review the same arrangement from different viewpoints.

Result · Editable model and browser view

Sketches & prompts

The amendments shaped the house

I used sketches and prompts to tell the AI what needed to change. The revision record shows how that direction developed the layout, beyond the atmosphere established in the Midjourney renders.

01

Connect the social rooms

The living room moved to the west end of the social pavilion, with a broad opening to the kitchen and a direct connection through to dining.

02

Give the courtyard more room

The inner courtyard became larger, with a reflecting pool and planting facing the kitchen and dining spaces.

03

Rework the private wing

The layout developed into two bedroom suites with their own bathrooms. A later change opened the shared corridor directly onto the pool walk.

04

Bring water into the living-room view

A water feature was placed outside the relocated living room, with the imagined lake extending around the west and south sides of the house.

My role

Creating the Midjourney renders, reviewing the AI-built model, and using sketches and prompts to direct the changes.

Image to model

The original renders and the developed spaces

Each pair starts with a Midjourney render created before modelling, followed by a view from the AI-built Blender model after my amendments. The model brings the rooms into a shared layout; some details are simplified or changed along the way.

Living room

02 · Developed spaceAI-built Blender model | After my amendments

The large rock, low seating and lake-facing glazing carry into the developed living room. Its position and connections were worked through in the model.

Kitchen and dining

01 · Starting imageMidjourney render | Before modelling
02 · Developed spaceAI-built Blender model | After my amendments

Timber furniture and a view towards water carry over from the Midjourney image. The developed plan connects kitchen and dining to the relocated living room.

Pool courtyard

01 · Starting imageMidjourney render | Before modelling
02 · Developed spaceAI-built Blender model | After my amendments

The long pool and shade tree remain central to the courtyard, with the surrounding rooms arranged around them in the model.

Bedroom

01 · Starting imageMidjourney render | Before modelling
02 · Developed spaceAI-built Blender model | After my amendments

A timber bed and a framed landscape view informed the bedroom. The private wing developed into two separate suites.

Bathroom

01 · Starting imageMidjourney render | Before modelling
02 · Developed spaceAI-built Blender model | After my amendments

The rock, stone surfaces and overhead light set the starting direction. In the model, the bathrooms were developed within the two-suite layout, with the rock forms simplified.

These plans show the arrangement reached through the modelling and amendment process. They record the developed house; the Midjourney renders were the starting point.

Corridor to pool

The final revision opens the shared bedroom corridor onto the main pool walk: a 4 m glazed opening with a bronze sliding door and a fixed glass panel that keeps the corridor width. A stone landing and two 150 mm steps drop to the terrace.

The browser model uses simplified materials and lighter foliage. The earlier Midjourney renders show the initial visual direction; the Blender views show the geometry developed through review and amendment.

About this model

A conceptual design developed from Midjourney images and an AI-built model, directed through my sketches and prompts. Dimensions are inferred and the landscape is illustrative. It is not a surveyed site model, construction documentation or an engineering design.
